The COVID-19 pandemic triggered the deepest global recession since the Second World War, with world output contracting by around 3.3%. Lockdowns disrupted supply chains, construction sites stood idle and investment decisions were postponed across every major market.

Yet the year also accelerated change: governments launched unprecedented stimulus, digital adoption surged, and infrastructure was widely identified as a key engine for the recovery to come.
